7D Surgical FLASH Navigation System

The 7D Surgical FLASH™ Navigation System virtually replaces standard X-ray imagery, providing the surgical team with a fast, accurate and radiation-free tool for the placement of spinal implants.

7D Surgical FLASH™ is like a GPS for back surgery – helping surgeons pinpoint exactly where to focus. St. Vincent’s Medical Center is the first acute care hospital in Connecticut to use 7D.

7D Surgical System Benefits

7D technology offers many advantages over traditional spinal surgery including:

  • More precise navigation
  • Improved patient safety
  • Radiation-free procedures
  • Decreased surgical time
  • Reduced recovery times

The 7D Surgical Machine-vision Image Guided Surgery technology (MvIGS) for spinal procedures guides surgeons with a highly detailed three-dimensional image taken in just four seconds. This replaces an X-ray image taken intermittently during traditional robotic surgery (fluoroscopy). The image created by the system is matched up digitally with the patient’s existing pre-operative scan to create a seamless, real time image of the patient’s anatomy.

Scans taken during standard fluoroscopic spinal surgery can take 20 minutes to an hour, prolonging exposure to radiation. The 7D Surgical system uses sophisticated camera technology, similar to self-driving cars, to create a three-dimensional photographic image in three to four seconds resulting in shorter, more efficient procedures.

Dr. Glenn Russo and Dr. Gerard Girasole of the Spinal Surgery team at St. Vincent’s get a better look at a patient’s anatomy with 7D Surgical Machine-vision Image Guided Surgery technology.

Conditions Treated with 7D Surgical FLASH™

7D Surgical FLASH™ can be used in any posterior procedure where fusion or screw placement is necessary. It’s intended to help the surgeon position neurosurgical instruments.
