Joint SurgeryTreating your Most Flexible Joint: The Shoulder

The shoulder joint has the greatest mobility of any joint in the body. Unfortunately, this makes it more likely to be injured or have problems from everyday wear and tear, overuse, and the aging process. Our board-certified and fellowship-trained shoulder surgeons are experts in treating this vulnerable joint that is crucial to your life’s daily activities. We offer the best diagnostic tools, treatments, and surgical options to get your shoulder back in motion so you can return to doing the things you love.

From shoulder fractures to torn rotator cuffs, when you have a shoulder injury you can experience not only great pain, but also swelling, weakness, and nerve problems, such as brachial plexus neuropathy. You might hurt your shoulder in the course of sports activities, work-related tasks, projects around the home, or a bad fall. We take care of every level of shoulder injury, and have expertise in shoulder surgeries to treat rotator cuff tears, impingement syndrome and shoulder instability problems, such as torn labrums.

Minimally-Invasive Knee Surgeries

The knee joint is one of the most versatile joints in your body, allowing you to run, jump, pivot, and move however you need to for whatever keeps you moving. Whether it is biking, swimming, running, or hiking, your knees can succumb to everyday wear and tear, overuse, and the aging process. Many knee injuries that you may encounter can be treated with conservative treatments. However, some may ultimately need surgery to get you back on your feet.

Our board-certified orthopaedic surgeons at Connecticut Orthopaedic Institute are fellowship-trained to perform knee arthroscopies to treat a wide array of knee problems, including ligamentous injuries, meniscal tears, bone spurs, synovial cysts, and cartilaginous defects. During a knee arthroscopy, a small camera (arthroscope) is inserted into your knee joint through a few small incisions. The camera displays the pictures on a video monitor, and your surgeon uses these images to guide miniature surgical instruments throughout the case. The small incision used result in less pain for patients, less joint stiffness, and often shorter recovery time to get your back on your feet and moving.

All of the specialists who care for your knee at Connecticut Orthopaedic Institute are dedicated to orthopaedics and are highly trained in the best protocols to ensure your safe and successful recovery.
