We are dedicated to preventing post-operative injuries and educating patients on what to expect during and after hospitalization for total joint replacements and spine surgery. Education on these topics can positively impact recovery and minimize the need for future treatment. We also offer preoperative education programs for spine, hip, knee and shoulder replacement patients and their families.

Connecticut Orthopaedic Institute offers patients a variety of new tools in orthopaedic surgery, including Mako Robotic-Arm Assisted Surgery System, a surgeon-controlled robotic arm system that enables even more precise alignment and placement of implants; the Globus ExcelsiusGPS™, a sophisticated surgical guidance system for spine procedures which allows our surgeons to perform less invasive procedures and helps them ensure implants and hardware placement are even more precise; the Medtronic Stealth Navigation System, that precisely tracks the location of surgical instruments throughout a procedure; and 7D Surgical, the first and only Machine-vision Image Guided Surgery (MvIGS) system that allows surgeons to perform fast, cost-effective, radiation-free spinal navigation.

St. Vincent’s One of Six Hospitals Nationally to Receive Advanced Certification in Spine Surgery

The Joint Commission

The spine program at St. Vincent’s, a collaboration between the Connecticut Orthopaedic Institute and the Ayer Neuroscience Institute, is one of only six hospitals in the country to receive Advanced Certification in Spine Surgery from The Joint Commission. The certification follows a rigorous review by The Joint Commission, an independent organization dedicated to improving healthcare for the public. The certification recognizes the compassionate, personalized and innovative care the spine program provides to every patient.


St. Vincent’s Medical Center Receives Joint Commission Certification in Hip Fracture

Hartford HealthCare St. Vincent’s Medical Center was recently designated as a Center of Excellence in hip fracture by The Joint Commission, the first in Fairfield County. This certification follows a rigorous review by The Joint Commission, an independent organization dedicated to improving healthcare for the public. Receiving designation from The Joint Commission as a Center for Excellence in hip fracture demonstrates that the Connecticut Orthopaedic Institute at St. Vincent’s Medical Center is treating hip fracture patients with the highest quality of care. St. Vincent’s is meeting or exceeding national benchmarks, including emergency department arrival to operating room time for surgical repair, with an average currently below the national standard, which improves patient outcomes. This program is a model for multidisciplinary care, requiring collaboration between the emergency department, orthopaedic surgeons, perioperative, anesthesia, hospitalists, nurses and rehab teams. The Connecticut Orthopaedic Institute at St. Vincent’s Medical Center is a destination for orthopedic trauma for patients in Fairfield County.

The Knee and Hip Replacement program at St. Vincent’s Medical Center has earned the prestigious Gold Seal of Approval™ by demonstrating compliance with The Joint Commission’s national standards for health care quality and safety in disease-specific care. This certification award recognizes our dedication to continuous compliance with state-of-the-art standards of quality care for patients and families as well as safety measures, including infection prevention and control, leadership, and medication management.
